Weekend Shenanigans

May 8 & 9

Bright and early we got up on our Saturday. We had to be at the beach by 9am for the boat to pick us up. I had a feeling it would a bit of a gong show because it was unlimited booze. I was right. For the most part it was TONS of fun. Everyone singing and dancing, really, just having a fun time. It was the perfect environment for relaxation. We sat in the front of the boat and dangled our legs over the edge. We sailed right into the Atlantic Ocean too! That was really neat, the waves were GINORMOUS!

We were able to go snorkeling at one point. The colours of the fish were unreal. It was hard to believe that they were real and not imaginary creatures. I marveled at the beautiful wonders. I am just awe struck at God’s creativity when he made all the fish. The vast colours and shapes. He is an amazing God for sure.

We had lunch on Green Island. A bunch of us took our plates of food and sat at the beach. I had just put my plate down on the table when Shelby sat down, the weigh was obviously too much as the entire table flipped over. All our food and drinks when flying! We all sat their laughing our heads off and Shelby preceded to eat the food that didn’t land in the sand. Luckily there was enough food for me to have more. It was delicious! There was garlic bread, pumpkin in sauce (basically butternut squash), rice with beans, macaroni and cheese, bbq’d chicken and fried fish. Again, it was delicious! The rum punches started flowing not long after that, or as my friends would say: punch rum. It was potent! I don’t think there was much punch in it either, more rum than anything. I limited myself to two, and spaced them well apart.

Good thing I was sober because most of them were not. I ended up playing babysitter to many of them. Ensuring that they didn’t make too many mistakes they’d regret. After the ride a bunch of them wanted to stay at the beach. We (the sobers) decided someone should stay with them to make sure they didn’t drown. I was the elected babysitter and I took on my new job (mind you with no experience) with much responsibility. After an hour or so they were all hungry so we began making the trek down the beach to a restaurant ironically called “The Beach”. Slightly pricey, but delicious pizza! I had vegetarian so I felt as if I was being ‘healthy’. It’s nice to fool yourself every now and then.

We made it home about 8pm, so really it wasn’t that late but it sure felt like it. A few of us then went to the restaurant at our hotel for karaoke. That was interesting. All I know is that us white girls have nothing on the natives of the island. To make the night even more interesting a guy we met at the beach showed up. Anthony was his name, he was from London, England. He was here rating different resorts and was truly just lonely (tired of being around so many couples). Unfortunately, we were just a little too protective. He decided to join us for some singing and none of us remember inviting him. As a result, we locked everyone that was sleeping in their rooms and kept the keys with us and stayed in a group.

The next morning was church. Alex had some connections and we were picked up island time (we were told 10:30am but in reality it was 10:50am). The service was more traditional from what I’m used to. But it was great to have some Jesus after a crazy day before. They were handing out mother’s day baskets full of fresh fruit and they gave Alex and I each one because they had extras! It was so kind and thoughtful. During worship there was even a women on an electric base. Alex and I burst out laughing we were so surprised to see a woman paying the base, let alone in such a traditional church. The message was short, which was good because the man preaching looked hilarious. He was wearing a powder blue suite, had crazy mad scientist hair, and spiny long fingers. He was preaching about a virtuous woman – it was intriguing none-the-less.

I played a few games of Yatzee when I came home and read a bit. The highlight was when most of us headed to “The Beach” restaurant to watch the hockey game. It was game #5 and a MUST win for the Canucks. They were down 3-1 and then won! So now we’re at 3-2. Still dangerous but better than it could have been, the alternative would mean the Canucks would be out of the playoffs. When I came home, mom told me she wore my lucky jersey. I think that had a bit of a part in why they won ;)
